Windom Road Barrier Park

After the threat of removal, a traffic barrier was transformed into a piece of art to tell a story of racial segregation, self-sufficiency, and collaboration. The Towns of Brentwood and North Brentwood, Prince George’s County’s first African American town, together undertook a process of discovery and conversation which led to the design and installation of the Windom Road Historic Barrier Park. Interviews and research were conducted by the artist team of Nehemiah Dixon III, R.L. Martens, and Bob Donahue. Sculpture design and fabrication were completed by Nehemiah Dixon III and Wesley Clark.
